What is the $5,000 rule for AC?

Filters every 60 to 90 days
Write the date on the cardboard edge when you fit it. It is the single cheapest thing you can do for the system.
Flush the drain line
A cup of warm water down the condensate line every month or so keeps the clog that floods a ceiling from ever forming.
Give the condenser room
Two feet clear all round the outdoor unit, and keep grass clippings and cottonwood off the fins.
